Urenco publishes UK Gender Pay Gap Report

09 April 2024

Produced on an annual basis under a UK Government requirement*, the Gender Pay Gap Report measures the difference between the average (mean and median) gross hourly earnings for men and women, regardless of the nature of their work.

It also looks at other data, including the percentage of women in leadership roles, and those who identify as having an underrepresented characteristic. Alongside the national data, our report assesses these metrics against our own I&D commitments and goals.

It demonstrates that between 2022 and 2023, the mean hourly pay gap increased by 0.2% to 13.3%. However, there is an overall decrease in the mean hourly pay gap of 10.8% over a six-year period since the reporting requirements began.

The median hourly pay gap increased by 6.9% to 19.5% in 2023. This increase was primarily driven by a programme to extend the uranium enrichment capacity of our sites to meet increased demand. This has resulted in additional roles being required in senior technical, engineering and operational positions, where female candidates are less well represented in the recruitment market. This is an area of continued focus for the business and we are committed to ensuring wherever possible we develop diverse candidate shortlists for all hiring decisions.

You can view a copy of the report on our Gender Pay Gap Reports page.

Ian Deninson, Chief People & Culture Officer, said:

“We are pleased to submit our report and can be happy with the progress we have made in certain areas. We continue to work towards our I&D strategy and goals and we recognise there remain areas we can still improve on.
“We have to continue making those improvements and build on our successes if we are to cultivate an inclusive and diverse working environment in which everyone feels valued, encouraged to fulfil their potential, respected and that they belong.”

*Gender pay gap reporting is a legal requirement from the UK Government for all employers in the UK with more than 250 employees. Currently Urenco UK is the only UK entity to meet the government’s criteria, however, Urenco has chosen to show the same data for all UK-based employees.
